Woman Jailed Almost Two Months for Dried Cat Pee

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Jacking in from the Twilight Zone, because it’s probably even too weird for the Weekly World News…but true nonetheless.

Cynthia Hunter, 38, was jailed in Tampa, Florida after being arrested for petty theft from a Wal-Mart. A vial was found in her purse containing a yellow substance, which Hunter claimed was dehydrated cat urine for a science project. Eyes no doubt were rolled when the substance tested positive for methampetamine using a field test kit, so the Florida authorities packed Hunter off to jail.

Imagine their surprise when proper lab tests showed that it was dehydrated cat urine all right! Of course, that was after Hunter had sat in the slammer for 50 days.

There’s a lot about “court appearances” in the original article, but nothing about an actual trial. So we’re not sure how much has changed in Florida since the days of Easy Rider.

Cocaine and Valium Not Recommended for Cats

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

An Australian cat may have saved its own life by ingesting a mix of drugs that no normal human would have tried.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, an 8-month-old Himalayan showed up at a vet with a racing heartbeat and other signs of nervous distress. The owner’s wife admitted it could have licked from "plates of cocaine" they had put out for their dinner guests.

A Piece of Tail

Friday, July 6th, 2007

Today while I was working at my computer, Steven called me over with some alarm in his voice. “I think it’s a lizard”, he said.

I walked over to the entrance to my office to find Steven and three or four cats staring intently at something wriggling on the ground. They (the cats) were trying to grab it and were huddling over it, so I whipped out my ever-present LED flashlight to take a look.

It wasn’t actually a lizard, but only a tail, bending fantastically this way and that, like a demented ballpoint pen refill on drugs. From the looks of it, it had belonged to a small alligator lizard that was now hiding somewhere amidst the cardboard boxes in the immediate area. Dropping a tail is a last-ditch survival trick of lizards that I had heard of many times, but had never seen in real life.

I thought it was pretty cool. Steven vowed not to eat anything longer than it’s wide, at least for several days.

Yang eventually carried it away proudly and presumably ate it. Yech.
